As Bob Marley once said “one good thing about music, when it hits you, you feel no pain.” It is in that spirit that we are releasing a new way to explore, discover and browse music videos on Bing.
Built from the ground up to make it easier for you to access the best music videos available on the web, our new music video experience was designed with music lovers in mind. Whether you’re looking for videos of songs and artists you are already familiar with (like Led Zeppelin and Justin Timberlake) or you’re looking to discover the next-up-and-coming artist or revisiting the classics, we’ve got you covered.
How Does it Work?
Let’s say you’re searching for Tighten Up by the Black Keys. You will see the most popular video showcased in the top-left of the screen. Harnessing Bing’s machine learning capabilities, the most relevant and popular music video for an artist, album or song is showcased in the upper right of the screen. Because we know that quality videos don’t just come from one place, we showcase videos from leading sites including YouTube, Vimeo, MTV, Artist Direct and more. Instead of making you click through to a site to see if a video is the one you want, you can simply mouse over the thumbnail to see a preview. If you like what you’re hearing, simply click on the button to play the full version.
Find the Song You’re Looking For
We’re not just about top forty artists, in this release we’ve striven to provide the most comprehensive set of videos possible spanning genres, decades and geography. So whether you’re looking to jam to The Lion King Soundtrack, relax to the blithe sounds of South Indian violinist L Subramaniam, explore the world of Eyptian Geel music with Amr Diab, or stumble upon the Stephen Colbert Christmasalbum, the new experience has it all.
Streamlined Music Discovery
We believe that search should be more than a collection of blue links pointing to pages around the web. Search should be a reflection of the actual world including music. To that end, Bing knows that artists create songs, songs are collected in albums and albums are part of musical genres. Using the connections between these things, Bing is able to generate a “Top Songs” section which uses the relationships and attributes of these people and things to provide a useful set of results. For example, let’s look at the case of the experimental band Animal Collective, shown below. The list is useful for people who may be new to the band as it can help them quickly get a holistic view of Animal Collective’s most popular songs.
Lost Art of the Album
In a world of digital downloads where singles are the norm, albums have become increasingly rare. There is still a romantic feel to owning a vinyl and experiencing a record in the particular order that the artist intended. With that in mind, we have assembled videos in the same order that they originally appeared on the album.
A great example of this is Pink Floyd’s Dark Side of the Moon.
You can access the album view by simply clicking on an album in the related albums section, or click on the name of the album below the song name. We have live albums, original ones, greatest hits, collections and more.
To help you discover artists you might like based on what you’re searching for we also showcase a list of related artists.
Ever Expanding Coverage
With over 1.7 million songs, 70,000 artists and a half a million albums, we’re confident that this release will be music to your ears. So before you go to your next concert, head over to Bing and browse what we have to offer and let us know what you think.
